The Serafini Family Ice & Splash Pad opens in Hamilton and new Fengate Recreation Fund announced

March 20, 2019

The new outdoor facility and granting program together represent a new $1 million gift to the city.

The Serafini Family Ice & Splash Pad now officially opened, offers Hamiltonians year-round opportunities to get outside and stay active. Located at the Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre, the Serafini Family Ice & Splash Pad is a gift that exemplifies the Serafini family’s personal and business roots in the city of Hamilton, as well as their lifelong love of recreation.

“Hamilton has been central to our family’s history and we’re honoured to support this new facility,” said Lou Serafini Jr., President and CEO, Fengate Asset Management, on behalf of his family. “It represents both the city’s role in our lives and our desire to share the benefits and enjoyment of recreation with young people who may not otherwise have an opportunity to explore their potential through sport.”

Mr. Serafini also announced a new Fengate Recreation Fund at the official opening of the Ice & Splash Pad. Administered through the Hamilton Community Foundation (HCF), the Fengate Recreation Fund is in place to provide grants that increase access to sport and recreation in Hamilton. The initial grants from the new fund will:

  • Work with Kiwanis Boys & Girls Club to make skates and helmets available for local children and families with limited financial resources
  • Support the (FAB) Fit, Active, Beautiful girl’s running program operating at the nearby Prince of Wales School
  • Subsidize participation in fee-based programs at the Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre

The new outdoor facility and Fengate Recreation Fund granting program together represent a new $1 million gift to the city and are in addition to the Fengate Community Foundation Fund, a $1 million grant established by Fengate in 2010 and administered by HCF in support of programs supporting youth, women and seniors.
