Fengate PCL consortium shortlisted for Macdonald Block Reconstruction Project

January 16, 2018

Infrastructure Ontario has identified Fengate PCL Progress Partners, a consortium comprising Fengate Real Asset Investments (Fengate), PCL Construction and Johnson Controls, as one of three shortlisted consortiums to design, build, finance and maintain the Macdonald Block Reconstruction Project.

Based in Toronto, the Macdonald Block Complex is the administrative hub of Ontario government operations, accommodating approximately 3,600 people. The complex is used as government offices and has a total rentable area of about 1.22 million rentable square feet. Completed in 1971, the Macdonald Block Complex has never undergone a major renovation and the core systems, including electrical, water, cooling and heating, have reached the end of their useful life and must be replaced.

The Macdonald Block Reconstruction Project involves the extensive reconstruction of the Macdonald Block Complex, which includes the Macdonald Block Podium, Hearst, Hepburn, Mowat and Ferguson Towers in Toronto.  This long-term project will take approximately eight years to complete and is part of the larger Queen’s Park Reconstruction Project which includes the rehabilitation of the Whitney Block. The Project’s construction value will be announced following financial close.
