Fengate consortium shortlisted for the Georgia Interstate Broadband Deployment project

October 17, 2018

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has identified the Georgia Broadband Group, a consortium comprising Fengate Asset Management, eX2 Technology, A2D, Inc., J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc., and AECOM Technical Services, Inc., as one of the three shortlisted groups to proceed to the second phase of the procurement for the Georgia Interstate Broadband Deployment Project.

The project involves the development of broadband by installing conduit on the right-of-way (ROW) along all of Georgia’s interstates. The public-private partnership will design, build, finance, operate and maintain (DBFOM) a fiber optic and wireless broadband network on approximately 1,305 centerline miles of limited access facilities, primarily comprised of interstate and limited state route right-of-way.

The wireless initiative would utilize “small cell” poles on the right of way of state routes to facilitate the change from 4G technology to 5G. The project could meet the internet requirements of rural communities, which would enable GDOT to better connect its offices and improve traffic management throughout the state.

The GDOT launched an RFQ for the project on 26 May, 2018. The term of the agreement is expected to be between 20 to 30 years.  For more information about the GDOT P3 projects, visit http://www.dot.ga.gov/PS/Innovative/P3
