Fengate and P3 partners celebrate opening of sixth school in Prince George’s County schools bundle

Fengate is pleased to announce the opening of the sixth and final school in the public-private partnership (P3) bundle delivered for Prince George’s County Public Schools, the Colin L. Powell K-8 Academy in Maryland.

Fengate-led consortium, Prince George’s County Education and Community Partners (PGCECP), joined client Prince George’s County Public Schools and senior stakeholders on site on February 22, 2024 for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The ceremony marked the academy’s official opening, which welcomed its first students in November 2023.

Andrea McLean, Senior Vice President of Asset Management at Fengate, addressed the audience on behalf of the PGCECP consortium.

“We are proud to have been a large part of the economic growth of small and minority businesses here in Prince George’s County… and to be a true community partner with the inclusion of student internships, mentoring opportunities, apprenticeships, and a one-million-dollar endowment to support scholarships.”

We are proud to be part of your community and to be your ongoing partners in ensuring teachers, staff and students always have access to safe, welcoming, and well-managed facilities, so that they can focus on developing the leaders of tomorrow.”

The five middle schools in the bundle – Sonia Sotomayor Middle School at Adelphi, Drew-Freeman Middle School, Hyattsville Middle School, Kenmoor Middle School and Walker Mill Middle School – opened to students in September 2023.

The PGCECP collaborative team delivered this first-of-its-kind project in the U.S. as a 30-year public-private partnership.

PGCECP comprises Fengate Asset Management (lead development and financing member), Gilbane Development Company (development and financing member), Gilbane Building Company (lead design-builder), Stantec (architect and design lead) and Honeywell (lead services provider).
