Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, an investment of the LiUNA Pension Fund of Central and Eastern Canada (“LPFCEC”), officially opened to the public, welcoming invited guests, locals and visitors to the newly reimagined casino-resort on Thursday, March 25, 2021. LPFCEC’s investment in Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is managed by Fengate.
The opening festivities featured Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson who officially declared “Virgin Hotels Las Vegas Day” in the county and this event was a historic occasion as it marked the opening of the first tribal-operated casino in the Las Vegas Strip area, Mohegan Sun Casino Las Vegas, and included a special Mohegan gifting ceremony.
In traditional fashion, Mohegan Tribal Councillors Joe Soper and Ken Davison presented a gift to Lou Serafini, President and Chief Executive Officer of Fengate, and Richard “Boz” Bosworth of JC Hospitality, including a hand-crafted Mohegan gourd, sweetgrass and a Mohegan blanket. Tommy White, Business Manager of LiUNA Local 872, Las Vegas, presented a gift on behalf of the ownership group to Mohegan leaders.
“The highly anticipated opening of the state-of-the-art Virgin Hotel is a sign of economic recovery and stimulus for Las Vegas,” said Joseph Mancinelli, Chair of LPFCEC, LiUNA International Vice President and Regional Manager of Central and Eastern Canada. “We are proud of the extensive work and commitment to health and safety by all partners, management and, most importantly, the men and women who worked tirelessly on the construction and on-site activation to make this a tremendous success. The reconstructed grounds are a testament to the vision and creativity of the team at Virgin and commitment of all partners.”
“Congratulations to our investor LPFCEC, to our partners, to Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, and to the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas onsite team on this significant milestone,” said Lou Serafini Jr., President and CEO, Fengate. “After years of strategic planning and construction with such an innovative and driven group of partners, it is exciting to see this beautifully reimagined and reconstructed casino-resort officially open its doors.”
