Remembering Louis Serafini Sr.
We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Louis Serafini Sr., founder of Fengate Asset Management.
Fengate’s story began in 1974, when Louis Sr. founded a small real estate brokerage and property management business in Hamilton. He grew it into an enduring enterprise grounded in ambition, integrity and trusted relationships. A true entrepreneur and visionary, Louis Sr. never lost sight of the responsibility entrusted to him or the people who made the work possible.
Louis Sr. accomplished much throughout his career. He was instrumental in building Fengate’s real estate business and remained deeply involved throughout his life. He visited every tenant, spoke with on-site team members, and was never afraid to get his hand dirty on construction sites.
Among his proudest achievements was helping to establish Fengate’s affordable housing division. In 1981, through Hamilton’s Sons and Daughters of Italy organization, he met Enrico Mancinelli, then a business manager with LiUNA. Raised in the same community of newcomers to Canada, they formed a deep friendship and business partnership built on trust, shared values and a commitment to strengthening their community. Enrico entrusted Louis Sr. to help lead LiUNA’s affordable housing initiative, and together with community partners, they developed more than 2,000 affordable homes.
That partnership helped lay the foundation for Fengate’s growth and shaped the organization we are today.
Louis Sr. believed deeply in giving back and strengthening the communities around him. That spirit lives on through the Fengate Community Foundation, the Louis Serafini Community Partnership Day, and through the many employees, partners and volunteers who continue his legacy of service.
As we mourn his loss, we remain grateful for the vision, values and relationships he leaves behind. His trademark “Good morning” to every team member he passed in the office halls will always be a reminder of the warmth and humanity he brought to his leadership.
His impact endures in the culture of our firm, the communities we serve, the countless lives he touched and the family who carries his legacy forward.
