Lou Serafini Jr. joined Fengate in 1995 and became Chief Executive Officer in 2002. During his tenure, Fengate has experienced tremendous growth by earning the trust of a growing group of institutional investors and securing $2.9 billion in capital under management. Lou is responsible for the overall leadership and vision for the firm, investment activities and the execution of Fengate’s strategic plan.
Lou has assembled a best in class team and led Fengate’s growth and evolution into one of Canada’s leading alternative asset management firms; Fengate is renowned for its expertise and success in real estate and infrastructure, with portfolios spanning North America, Europe and Australia, and has recently expanded with the launch of a private equity business. Lou oversees the executive management team as well as the company’s strategic direction and investor relations, and he has assembled a distinguished Advisory Board comprised of industry leaders. Lou spearheads Fengate’s Investment Committee and sits on the Board of the General Partners to each fund.
A business thought leader, Lou is a frequent keynote speaker for industry conferences and regular media commentator. He is recognized for his authenticity and the high level of trust he has secured with his investors. Lou is a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Council of Public-Private Partnerships, Hamilton Utilities Corporation and a former Board of Director of Horizon Utilities (merged into Alectra Utilities). He is also a member of the Young Presidents Organization. Under Lou’s leadership, Fengate has achieved Platinum Club member status as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, retaining this designation since 2007. Building on Fengate’s legacy of generous community support, Lou established the Fengate Community Foundation Fund in 2010; a $1 million grant in support of numerous charitable organizations in Canada and around the world, with a focus on children and youth programs. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and a Master of Business Administration from McMaster University.
